Consonant Insertion

The consonant [y] is added when the imperfect verbs ekan and edi are added to words ending in vowels or when two vowels come together:

In Arabic loan words, the sound [ayn], which is unpronounced in literary Uzbek, is pronounced like [g’] after vowels:
